The Western Shores Chapter of IAAP is a very active chapter in providing for collegiate scholarships.  Awarding scholarships to deserving students is one example of its commitment to providing assistance and encouragement to those students pursuing an administrative assistant or office administration career.

The Western Shores Chapter of IAAP offers one or two scholarships each year to a Muskegon/Ottawa County area student attending a Michigan college and pursuing a career as an office administration/secretarial major. The next deadline for application is April 30, 2011.

Scholarship Guidelines

Eligible students are those attending school in Muskegon and North Ottawa Counties who will be pursuing an office/ administrative assistant, secretarial, and/ or office administration career at any Michigan college.

This is the criteria for selection of the scholarship recipient:


1. Academic achievement of 3.0 GPA or better.

2. Goal of an office/ administrative assistant, secretarial, and/ or office  administration career.

3. Applicant's character, citizenship, and leadership ability.

4. Completion of a two-page application and one letter of recommendation from a counselor, instructor, or employer concerning the applicant's ability, character, and potential contribution to the office administration field.

Previous Scholarship Recipients

In 2010, one $1000 scholarship was awarded to Ashlie Boerma. Ashlie is currently a student at Muskegon Community College and graduated from Spring Lake High School. Her major is Office Systems Education, with a focus on the legal aspect.
In 2009, one $1000 scholarship was awarded to Lindy Browand, a senior at Whitehall High School, is planning to attend Davenport University to pursue a major in Business Administration.
In 2008, two scholarships were awarded. Kara Ingalls (Shelby) will attend Baker College of Muskegon to pursue a degree in Administrative Assistant and Human Resource Management.
Deborah Burr (Montague) is a student at Baker College of Muskegon pursuing a degree in as a Medical Receptionist.  Kara and Deborah received scholarship awards of $1,000 and $750, respectively.
In 2005, one $1,000 scholarship was awarded to Sheri Wentzlof.  She is working on a medical administrative assistant degree, with interest in working with medical insurance billing.

In 2004, two $1,000 scholarships were awarded to Sarah Shaw, a Baker College student, and Claudia Cyr, a Muskegon Community College student.  An additional $250 scholarship was awarded to Anje Loftis, a Baker College student, thanks to the generosity of Dana Corporation.

In 2003, two scholarships were awarded to Jaclyn Braspenninx (Ravenna) who will be attending Aquinas College, and Amy Maike (White Cloud) who will be attending Baker College.

In 2002, two $750 scholarships were awarded to Nora Kokx (Baker College) and Megan Hanks, a recent graduate of Orchard View High School.

In 2001, two $750 scholarships were awarded to Cheryl Peterson (Baker College) and Patti Oosterhouse (Muskegon Community College)

In 2000, two $750 scholarships were awarded to Julia Enman (Baker College) and Michelle Bennet (Baker College).
